Students Earn Top Honors in Friends of Norfolk Public Library Book Review Contest
A love of reading and strong writing skills helped several Norfolk Collegiate students earn top honors in the 2026 Friends of Norfolk Public Library (FNPL) Book Review Contest.
The annual competition invites students in grades 1 through 12 from public and private schools, as well as homeschool programs, to submit reviews of books they have read. The contest supports the FNPL's mission to strengthen public support for the Norfolk Public Library and enhance its resources and programming, including fundraising efforts for new books and special events such as the Summer Reading Program.
This year, Norfolk Collegiate students earned multiple first-, second- and third-place awards across several grade levels, demonstrating the thoughtful analysis, communication skills and intellectual curiosity that are hallmarks of a Norfolk Collegiate education.
Congratulations to this year's winners:
Grade 1: Maddie M. (First Place), Taylor N. (Second Place)
Grade 4: Jillian T. (First Place), Charlotte C. (Second Place), Winn T. (Third Place)
Grade 5: Stella G. (Second Place), Livy G. (Third Place)
Grade 6: Noah A. (First Place)
Grade 7: Shaila B. (Second Place)
Grade 8: Parker S. (First Place)
Winners were recognized during a special awards celebration in Norfolk and received their honors from this year's guest speaker, Diane Fine, a professional screenwriter and script doctor with more than 25 years of experience in Hollywood.
The accomplishments of these students reflect the qualities found in Norfolk Collegiate's Portrait of an Oak: curious learners, effective communicators and engaged thinkers who are eager to explore ideas and share their perspectives with others.
Norfolk Collegiate is proud of all students who participated in the contest and congratulates this year's award winners on their outstanding achievement.
