Online Library resources

Norfolk Collegiate's libraries provides access to thousands of full-text periodical articles and reference works through its Internet subscription databases. These databases may be accessed through any computer in Norfolk Collegiate's buildings or from home using special access passwords available to all students and faculty.

Middle & Upper School Resources

Bloom’s Literary Reference Online

  • Features thousands of critical articles and essays by noted scholars examining the lives and works of great writers throughout history. 


  • BrainPop (K-grade 8) contains animated, curriculum-based videos that are reinforced by interactive quizzes, vocabulary activities, graphic organizers and other content. Norfolk Collegiate has a school-wide subscription for use on campus and at home. Please contact the librarian for more information. 

Britannica School Edition

  • Comprehensive online encyclopedia that filters content depending on academic level. 

Country Reports

  • This site offers cultural, historical, and statistical information on countries of the world in a student-friendly format. 

Curriculum Video on Demand

  • This is a web-based digital video delivery service for streaming educational video content from the Films Media Group and Facts On File. 

Destiny Catalogue

Fine Arts and Music Collection

  • Fine Arts and Music Collection provides access to scholarly journals and magazines that support research in areas including drama, music, art history, and filmmaking. The database emphasizes full-text content for publications included in the Wilson Art Index and RILM bibliography.

General Science Collection

  • General Science Collection provides access to scholarly journals and magazines covering the latest scientific developments. Key subjects covered by the database include biological sciences, computing, engineering, and technology.

ProQuest eLibrary

  • eLibrary offers five years of popular magazines, books, newspapers, pictures, maps, and transcripts of television and radio shows with information updated daily. All of the materials included are full-text.


  • ProQuest Central is the largest database in the Stanton Library. ProQuest offers access to abstracts and selected full-text articles from a broad selection of newspapers, magazines, journals, etc. In addition to its collection of periodicals, it includes newspapers such as The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal as well as other national and international newspapers.

Salem Press 

  • Salem Press is a database that includes the complete content of printed reference sets.  Historically references include Great Events in History: Renaissance, Milestone Documents in American History, and Milestone Documents in World History. Science references include the Encyclopedia of Global Warming and Psychology & Behavioral Health

SIRS Issues Researcher

  • Covers leading issues most studied and debated by students in a Pro/Con format.

Criminal Justice Collection

  • Whether studying to become a lawyer or law enforcement officer, paralegal, or for a career in Homeland Security, this collection rises to the challenge.   

Expanded Academic ASAP  

  • From arts and the humanities to social sciences, science and technology, this database meets research needs across all disciplines. Access scholarly journals, news magazines, and newspapers - many with full text and images.  

General Reference Center Gold 

  • A general interest database that integrates a variety of sources - newspapers, reference books, magazines, and trade publications.  Find articles on current events, popular culture, business and industry trends, the arts and sciences, sports, hobbies, and more. 

Health Reference Center Academic  

  • Multi-source database with over 1550 full text journals provides access to the full text of nursing and allied health journals, plus the wide variety of personal health information sources in InfoTrac's award-winning Health Reference Center. 

Psychology Collection  

  • This collection gives individuals a basic understanding of the study of the mind, emotions and how the human mind develops and diminishes over time. Researchers will have access to 200 subject-appropriate full-text periodicals. 

Student Edition 

  • Now with over 1,100 titles, this periodical database is designed for high-school students with access to a variety of indexed and full-text magazines, newspapers, podcasts, and reference books for information on current events, the arts, science, popular culture, health, people, government, history, sports and more.

  • Britannica School Elementray helps students discover encyclopedia articles, multimedia, primary sources, games, and other learning resources that support student research, classroom exploration, and curriculum standards. 


  • Brain Pop creates dynamic learning concepts about the body, space, science and health. It allows students to answer homework questions by watching a movie, asking for advice, or browsing to learn. 

BrainPop Jr.

  • This database covers topics within Science, Math, Social Studies, English Language Arts, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Music, Health, Reading and Writing. BrainPOP engages students through animated movies, learning games, interactive quizzes, primary source activities, concept mapping, and more. 

Destiny catalogue

  • Get excited about investing in an integrated library management system that effectively supports active student learning with greater efficiency. Destiny Library Manager provides centralized access to enriched, educator-reviewed digital content and tools that help librarians, staff and students locate and share resources with ease. 

ERIC Database

  • ERIC is an online library of education research and information, sponsored by the Institute of Education Sciences (IES) of the U.S. Department of Education. 


  • eLibrary is one of the most comprehensive collections of engaging supplemental digital content for public libraries and K12 schools. In addition to hundreds of full text and full run journals and newspapers, eLibrary offers millions of the best images, maps, websites and videos to support today’s classrooms.

Find It Virginia

  • Find It Virginia is a collection of databases that provide access to resources such as newspapers, magazine and journal articles, and books such as encyclopedias. Materials are available for all age ranges and interests. 

Info Trac Kid's Edition

  •  This periodical database is designed for elementary school students, with easy access to full-text magazines, newspapers and reference books for information on current events, the arts, science, popular culture, health, people, government, history, sports and more.  
  • TumbleBooksLibrary is an online collection of TumbleBooks, anicated, talking picture books which teach kids the joy of reading in a format they'll love. Our eletronic picture book can is one students can read or have read to them.

  • The World Book website offers an encyclopedia, dictionary, atlas, homework help, study aids and curriculum guides.
