Inside Norfolk Collegiate's Student-Athlete Task Force
Norfolk Collegiate student-athletes do more than compete. They lead. Through the Student-Athlete Task Force, representatives from across the school's varsity programs step up to shape the culture of excellence, sportsmanship and school spirit that defines the Oaks. Now expanded to include student-athletes in grades 9–12, the program equips young leaders with the skills and voice to make a lasting impact on their teams and their school.
Task force members convene in August, participate in a leadership boot camp and in a Positive Coaching Alliance workshop focused on sportsmanship, character and leadership development.
Ongoing Learning & Leadership
Throughout the academic year, the group engages in sessions that include:
• Exploring diverse leadership styles
• Defining commitment and personal accountability
• Identifying the legacy they aspire to leave
• Evaluating current athletic programs and culture
• Brainstorming future improvements
• Hearing from guest speakers and mentors
Student-athletes collaborate with athletic administrators and peers to put ideas into action, support special projects, and help shape programming that benefits all teams.
Strengthening Community & Perspective
The task force has strengthened connections across campus by hosting guest speakers, including local business executives, military leaders and collegiate athletes. These conversations expose students to real-world leadership experiences and generate meaningful dialogue about character, performance and teamwork.
Looking Ahead
The Student-Athlete Task Force will continue to expand its impact and provide more student-athletes with opportunities to lead, inspire and represent Norfolk Collegiate at the highest level.
