Nora '26 first Run Club participant to hit 50 miles

If you asked Nora ’26 last year how she would feel about being in a running club, she would have laughed.

This year, the seventh grader would be over the moon!

Nora is part of the Norfolk Collegiate’s Run Club, which Coach Luke Reilly started at the beginning of the school year to encourage middle school students to stretch their legs and run 100 miles during physical education classes throughout the year.

Nora is topping the division and just shy of 50 miles!

“She is our middle school leader in laps completed,” said Reilly. “The ultimate goal is 350 laps by end of school year which equals 100 miles.”

Nora credits the club to her new-found passion.

“I didn’t realize how much I loved running until PE, but I really love running,” said Nora, who said she couldn’t run 2 minutes last year with her mom, an avid runner. “The thing I enjoy about running is how fun I think it is.

I don’t really know why I think it’s fun, I just really enjoy how fast I go. It makes me feel good to run, and it makes me feel happy and less anxious and stressed about things.”

And for nearing 50 miles, well, she’s thrilled.

“It means so much to me. It makes me feel like I can reach a lot in the future as well,” she said. “My ultimate goal is to join a club or track/cross country. Eventually, I would like to run for charity or something.”

Now Nora is an avid runner. “I run any chance I get, not just at PE,” she said. She runs with her mother and she found a neighbor with whom she also runs.

“I think it was just something that I needed to do to realize how good it makes me feel.”

As for PE, she’s going to push herself to increase her daily laps.

“I always find myself pushing myself to get more laps… I’m always trying to push myself to do good. I will do anything it takes, and I will try my best to stay the top in my class.”
