Music

The music program is a vital, thriving part of Norfolk Collegiate's curriculum. Chorus, drama and band are introduced in the lower school and continue throughout high school. Concerts, a jazz performance and plays also showcase our talented students.

In Our Lower School

Norfolk Collegiate's elementary music program provides a foundation for basic music literacy and appreciation. Students experience music sequentially through singing, moving, playing, listening and creating.

Students explore the concepts of rhythm, melody, harmony, tone color, form and expression in their lower school years. They also present musicals, choral, band and string concerts each year, as well as perform in several off-campus performances.

In Our Middle School

Middle school students grow and develop through their explorations of the performing arts while also expanding their knowledge about themselves and the world around them.

Students explore the performing arts through the following venues:
  • Chorus/Drama
  • Beginning Band
  • Band
  • String Ensemble

In Our Upper School

Upper school students further build upon skills learned in the lower and middle school through participation in band, chorus, strings, and theatrical performances and production. As students explore the performing arts, we help them grow into individuals ready to face the challenges of our ever-changing world.

Students pursue these passions through to following courses:
  • A Capella
  • Band
  • Concert Choir
  • Jazz Band
  • Music Theory I & II
  • Strings Ensemble
  • Theatrical Production
