Middle School Extended Care Program

We recognize that middle school students on campus before and after regular school hours require supervision.  Our before school program provides a place for students to get ready for their day when they arrive on campus early. Our goal in the after school program is to give students a pleasant space to be productive and have fun while they remain on campus in the afternoons. The after school program helps students get a jumpstart on homework and projects during the quiet study period. The afternoon also provides an opportunity for students to relax, play games and chat with friends in the middle school Explore Room.

Program Hours

Morning Care:  7:15-7:50 a.m.

Afternoon Care:  3:10-6 p.m.

Early Dismissal and Days when School is Not in Session: Extended care will not be offered on days that school is not in session.  Afternoon care will not be available on early dismissal days, and students should be picked up at dismissal time.

School Closures and Delays:

  • In the event that school has an unscheduled early dismissal due to an emergency including severe weather, Extended Care will not be offered.
  • If school is delayed, the morning care program will begin 30 minutes before the new school start time.
  • If school is canceled or closed, the Extended Care program is also cancelled.

Program Details

Morning Care: Middle school students may be dropped off as early as 7:15 a.m. each morning. Middle school students who are in the building prior to 7:50 a.m. must report to and sign in at the location in the middle school designated for supervised morning care.  Students will be dismissed from morning care for the school day at approximately 7:50 a.m. to prepare for their day and report to homeroom.

Afternoon Care: Middle school students will be provided a supervised afternoon care program during the hours of 3:10 -6 p.m.  This program will include a supervised study time and activity time.  Supervised study time may be held in designated middle school classrooms, and the activity time will be held in the middle school Explore Room. All students registered to attend afternoon care are expected to report to the designated location and sign in immediately following dismissal at 3:10 p.m. each afternoon.

All middle school students who remain on campus after the school day ends must attend this afternoon care program until signed out by a parent or an authorized adult. Exceptions include students who are participating in athletics, arts, and supervised school clubs and activities. All middle school athletes with practices or games starting prior to 3:45 p.m. will report to the middle school gym by 3:15 p.m. for a supervised transition to afternoon athletics and to wait for coaches and team practices to begin.  Students with practices and games that start after 3:45 p.m. will report to the middle school afternoon care program until time for them to report to their athletic events. Students with performing arts practices or school sponsored club activities after school must report to those supervised activities immediately after dismissal.

Any student remaining in the middle school after 3:30 p.m. who is not at an athletic, arts, or club activity, must report to the afternoon care program. Any student who is not picked up immediately after their athletic or other activity ends on campus, if the event ends prior to 6 p.m., must report to the middle school afternoon care location. Students will be required to remain in afternoon care until signed out by a parent or authorized adult.

Program Participants

  • Middle school students not picked up by 3:30 p.m. (who are not participating in athletics, arts, supervised clubs or other school activities) must sign in with the afternoon care teacher.
  • Athletes or students participating in other supervised activities after school who end their session prior to 6 p.m. and are not being picked up shortly afterwards, must report to the afternoon care room.
  • Coaches or activity supervisors should escort any students who will not be picked up by parents to the afternoon care location.
  • Athletes who start their activity after 3:45 p.m. must sign in at the afternoon care room until time to report to their designated activity.

Schedule for Afternoon Care

  • Students will participate in a supervised study time from approximately 3:30-4:30 p.m. This time may be shorter on Friday afternoons at the discretion of the extended care supervisor.
  • Students may bring a snack to the afternoon care program.
  • Students will be allowed to visit the school store for snacks after checking in with the afternoon care program supervisor.
  • Students will participate in an activity time in the Explore Room from 4:30 p.m. through the remainder of the program hours until 6 p.m.
  • Optional activities, such as attending a sporting event or other on-campus activities as a group with an extended care adult, may be made available depending on interest and available supervision.
  • Continued supervised study time will also be available during the afternoon care program for students who prefer this option.

Dismissal Procedures

  • Parents or designated adults should come into the middle school to sign students out.
  • With prior parental permission, students may sign out when their parent arrives in the Middle School pick-up line and the student alerts extended care personnel.
  • The program will close at 6 p.m. and all students must be picked up by 6 p.m.
  • Due to the need for adult supervision for students in the middle school, students may not sign themselves out to attend athletic games on the fields or in the gyms.

  • Registration fee:  $50 per semester for each student per semester
  • All students must be registered in order to attend. Please find the registration form here.
  • Please be aware that we are exploring a fee-based program for the 2020-21 school year for middle school.
