Save the date: Turf Fields & Lights Opening Ceremony

*** THIS EVENT IS RAIN OR SHINE ***

The opening of our turf fields is just around the corner and this is one event that you won’t want to miss. Please mark your calendar and join us as we dedicate our new fields with a brief ceremony before turning on the lights for our student-athletes on Friday, Sept. 25.

Norfolk Collegiate announced the $2.6 million “Turf Fields and Lights Campaign” shortly after the 2013 completion of the Meredith Center for the Arts.

“The turf fields aligned with lights will reinforce the image of Collegiate as a community player,” said Henry Harris, III. Harris is the campaign chairman, former chairman of the Board of Trustees and an alumni parent. “Given the central location of the school, it will grant greater opportunity for many nonprofit sports organizations in the Tidewater area to participate and schedule events on our fields.”

The addition of the turf fields and lights is not only an investment in the school, but also in the greater Hampton Roads area.  The fields mark Norfolk Collegiate as the first K-12 school in the greater Hampton Roads region with two side-by-side, pre-lined, competition-size turf fields with lights.

“The state-of-the-art fields are a symbol of who we are as an institution. It aligns with our mission of traditional and innovative teaching with a strong community focus,” said Harris. “I’m extremely excited for opening day.”

Opening Ceremony

Our community is encouraged to participate in this historic event for the school. The ceremony will take place on the turf fields with a ribbon cutting and short ceremony by Headmaster Scott Kennedy and our special guest speakers beginning at 6:30 p.m.

However, this exciting event doesn’t start or stop there. Students will take part in a pep rally before school dismisses to celebrate the occasion. Following dismissal, we encourage all families to return and cheer on our Oaks at the following events:

  • Girls’ varsity volleyball takes on Central Virginia Homeschool Athletic Association at 5:15 p.m. in the Watt-Baker Gymnasium
  • Stay and enjoy concessions from local food trucks, including Bodacious Pizza and Just Cupcakes
  • Our first guests will receive limited giveaways, including Norfolk Collegiate stadium cushions and school-themed cupcakes from Just Cupcakes
  • Games begin at 7p.m. with girls’ varsity field hockey vs. Highland School and boys’ varsity soccer vs. Norfolk Christian School
