Third-Grade students participate in spelling bee

On May 3, 2017, 15 students participated in the third-grade spelling bee in Norfolk Collegiate’s Spainhour Family Library. The students went a whopping 40 rounds and through 200 words before going into the challenge words.

They may be in third grade, but the students were spelling beyond their grade.

In the end, Alexa Butler correctly spelled the winning word “portions,” which was a fourth-grade level word. Carter Kaplan took home second-place honors and David Sawyer took home third-place honors.
