Norfolk Collegiate honors senior athletes

On April 26, Norfolk Collegiate recognized eight senior student-athletes who have committed to play their respective sports at the collegiate level this fall.

The honorees included:

  • Chris Beck, who will wrestle at the Virginia Military Institute. Beck is a 2015 All-American Athlete, a 2016 VISSA and TCIS champion, a 2016 state best wrestler in the heavyweight division and a 2015 All-Conference soccer player.
  • Darden Purrington, who will sail at U.S. Coast Guard Academy. She is a TCIS All-Conference and VISAA All-State Skipper.
  • Dreugh Phillips, who will sail at Old Dominion University, is a TCIS All-Conference and VISAA All-State Skipper and the 2015 TCIS Skipper of the Year.
  • Bailey Jones, who will play volleyball at Randolph Macon College. Bailey is a three-time captain, most valuable player, a two-time TCIS Tourney Team player, a 2014 TCIS second team All-Conference and a 2015 TCIS first team recipient.
  • Adam Grant and Bash Townes, who helped to lead Collegiate to win the 2016 TCIS championship, will play Division I basketball together at Bryant University. Adam is a four-time captain, three-time All-Conference and All-State recipient. Bash, who became Collegiate's first boys' varsity basketball player to score more than 2,000 points this past season, is a TCIS Tournament most valuable player, four-time first-team All-Conference and All-State recipient and a two-time All-Tidewater athlete.

Seniors Kyonze’ Chavis and Nick Baker also were recognized during the assembly. Both students are still deciding which school will be lucky enough to add the talented basketball player and sailor, respectively, to their rosters.
