  • Norfolk Collegiate Announces Exciting Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice Initiative

    In support of Norfolk Collegiate’s mission to offer an inclusive and supportive learning community, the school has launched a new, comprehensive multi-year Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice (DEIJ) initiative. The initiative will guide students, faculty, staff and the community to a more thoughtful and productive understanding of and commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, justice and anti-racism and how this contributes to the organization's significance and success in the 21st century.
     
    Thanks to a $600,000 gift from honorary trustee and Norfolk Collegiate alumnus Ted Mathas '85 and his wife Keryn, the school is able to accelerate and enhance its ongoing efforts to actively commit to an inclusive culture that will create transformative and sustainable change to the school.

  • Economics Lesson Sees Real-World Outcomes

    Each year, Aaron Gregory’s Economics students participate in the Stock Market Game (SMG), a class-long project through the Virginia Council on Economic Education (VCEE).

    Students first learn the basics of corporate finance, financial assets and investment. They then are divided into teams and use the SMG platform to execute purchases of stocks, mutual funds and bonds. It's a competition with regional, state and national levels.

    Students Jasper Garris ’21, Andrew Hair ’21, Samantha Janovetz ’20 and Spencer King ’20 finished in 30th place out of 344 teams in the region!

  • Students Honored in Book Review Contest

    Five Oaks received top honors in the Friends of Norfolk Public Library (FNPL) 2020 Book Review Contest. This year, the contest garnered more than 1,724 submissions, 167 of which were from Norfolk Collegiate students, and the judges had their work cut out for them.

  • Students Honored in Elie Wiesel Competition

    For 12 years, Norfolk Collegiate’s students have participated in the Elie Wiesel Writing and Visual Arts Competition. This year, Collegiate saw several students take special honors in the junior division portion of the competition.
