Collegiate partners with Sentara Healthcare

strength and conditioning, athletic training programs COMBINE

Norfolk Collegiate is committed to finding opportunities to foster the physical wellness of our students and families. We’re excited to announce our new partnership with Sentara Healthcare. This marks the first time our school has combined our strength and conditioning and athletic training programs to build a superior injury prevention program.

Sentara is a Norfolk-based company with nearly 130 years of experience in injury prevention and strength and conditioning techniques to keep our student-athletes in the game.

As part of the program, we’re welcoming a new, on-site athletic trainer and Dr. Frederick Bagares whose focus is orthopedics, physical medicine and rehabilitation and sports medicine. Collegiate families will have access to Sentara’s resources including weekly injury clinics and priority follow-up care at Sentara’s 5,000 square-foot Granby Street facility opening in 2018. It will feature an on-site physician and physical therapists, should the need arise.

Dr. Bagares is a concussion specialist board certified in sports medicine and physiatry.

Joining us as interim athletic trainer is Alyssa Fisher. She specializes in Sentara's program development and project management for their sports medicine and neurosciences service lines.

Also joining the Collegiate community for strength and conditioning is Brandon Trusty. He is a familiar face to some having provided strength and conditioning this summer through Fuel Sports Performance. As part of the Sentara team, Trusty will be working with Bagares and Fisher to ensure our Oaks are in peak condition. His focus is on strength and conditioning to provide our Oaks a strong foundation resulting in fewer injuries.

Students, parents and faculty and staff who want to see Dr. Bagares during his free, weekly clinics can schedule an appointment by contacting Fisher at Fisher will be on campus Monday through Friday from 2 p.m. until the end of practices and games.

We look forward to seeing our Oaks flourish this year. If you have questions, please contact Director of Athletics Jon Hall at
