Claywell named permanent head of the upper school

Anne ClaywellAnne Claud Claywell ’88 has been permanently appointed as head of Norfolk Collegiate’s upper school. Claywell has been serving as interim head of upper school since July 1, 2016, and her permanent appointment follows a national search.

Claywell has more than 20 years of experience in educational leadership. She began her career in the Norfolk Public Schools, and during her 14 years of service to Norfolk Collegiate, she has held numerous positions including dean of students, upper school counselor, associate director of college counseling, and director of academic advising and counseling. In addition, she has been active in a number of professional organizations including the Tidewater Governor’s School Committee and the Potomac and Chesapeake Association for College Admission Counseling. She holds degrees from Marymount University and Old Dominion University, including an M.S. Ed. in school counseling.

Claywell and her husband, Mike '88, are Portsmouth natives and the parents of Nash '21 and Billy '24.
