Bryant appointed head of middle school

Susan Bryant, Head of the Middle SchoolSusan Bryant has been permanently appointed as head of Norfolk Collegiate’s middle school. Bryant has been serving as interim head of middle school since July 1, 2016, and her permanent appointment follows a national search conducted by the middle school search committee.

The search committee, comprised of faculty members and administrators, reviewed dozens of applications and spoke with numerous candidates during the last few months.

“I am very pleased with the leadership and tone that Sue has brought to the middle school community during her interim tenure, and I am looking forward to her continued positive leadership,” said Headmaster Scott Kennedy.

Bryant has more than 40 years of experience in educational leadership. She has held various roles at several prestigious schools, including head of school at The Chestnut Hill School; interim head of school, director of admissions and teacher at Tenacre Country Day School; and dean of the upper school, college counselor, advisor and assistant director of development at Newton Country Day School. Bryant holds degrees in education from Harvard University and Wheelock College.

Sue and her husband, Carl, who is Norfolk Collegiate's director of finance and operations, have been residents of Norfolk for the past 14 years. During this time, she has been active in various community organizations including the board of the Virginia Zoo and the Norfolk Housing and Redevelopment Authority Education Committee. Bryant also served as interim director of admissions for Norfolk Collegiate during the 2014-15 academic year and has served for several years as head coach of our varsity golf team.
