April’s Athlete of the Month—Anna Winn

Anna Winns’ passion for lacrosse began in the fifth grade when her friends encouraged her to play the sport. Since then, Anna ’19 has averaged two to three goals per game. As a freshman, she is excited to be part of the girls’ varsity lacrosse team and hopes to have a great season. She sat down with the Oak Connection to talk about the lessons she’s learned while playing lacrosse and her goals for the season.

What is it like to be named the Athlete of the Month?

Being named athlete of the month is a big accomplishment. It makes me feel good about the season that I’ve had so far and what is to come in the future.

How did you become involved in lacrosse?

My friends encouraged me to play in fifth grade, and my sisters also played. They motivate me a lot.

What are your goals for the season?

My goal is to learn and grow as a player. Coach Jon Hall has helped me to set the goal of scoring at least two to three goals per game.

Are you excited to play this season as a freshman? What lessons have you learned throughout prior years that will impact you in your varsity career?

Yes, I’m excited to play as a freshman. I also played varsity in eighth grade, which helped me to learn a lot as a player. Being younger than most of the girls on the team has helped me to develop my skills.

What’s your most memorable sports moment while here at Collegiate?

My favorite moment of lacrosse was last year when our team went to Charlottesville. We had the chance to stay in a hotel to bond. We won our game the next day 18 to 8. Then, we had the opportunity to watch University of Virginia play Duke. We all had a lot of fun, and it was a good bonding experience.

What do you like to do outside of playing lacrosse?

I also play field hockey in the fall.
