A Sunday made just for ice cream

Art is one of life's greatest forms of expression; join us for a tremendous day filled with fun, creativity and ice cream at our Lower School’s Sundae Fun Day on Sunday, Jan. 31, at 1 p.m.

Each year our friends at the Lower School create handmade bowls, and to celebrate their art work Collegiate hosts an art exhibit followed by the creation of ice cream sundaes to fill the bowls.

This is an afternoon of fun for current and potential families to enjoy with their children.

Melinda Vooss, Lower School art teacher and event creator, is extremely excited about this year’s activity.

“Students get so excited to use something that they’ve created,” she said. “We talk about how art can have everyday functions and the creation of their bowls allows them to understand that first hand.”

With the participation of every child at the Lower School, there are usually more than 200 handcrafted bowls for display at Sundae Fun Day. Once parents view the exhibit, students are allowed to gather their bowls to prepare ice cream sundaes.

Families are encouraged to enjoy their afternoon at Collegiate by taking a photo in the photo booth, enjoy face painting by our Art Club, and get creative at our crafting stations, which include a rainbow loom station, a made magic station and more.

This event is fun for all ages. Tickets cost $6 per person and are needed only if you plan on enjoying a sundae. Advance tickets are available online or by submitting a check, payable to Norfolk Collegiate School, or cash to Michelle Kellam in the Lower School office. Online ticket sales will end on Friday, Jan. 22. Tickets also will be available at the door.

The event wouldn’t be a success without the help of our parent volunteers. Whether it’s scooping ice cream or helping supervise a craft table, all volunteers are welcome to assist. Parents who would like to sign-up for a time slot or for more information, please contact Alison Carlsmith at alison.carlsmith@gmail.com.
