Summer 2018 Internship Program

Norfolk Collegiate is excited to announce the launch of the Norfolk Collegiate Internship Program beginning the summer of 2018.

PROGRAM GOALS

This program originated from Norfolk Collegiate's efforts to bring more robust real-world experiences to our students by partnering with many businesses and organizations in the Hampton Roads.

Our mission is to provide our students hands on, real-world experience at a unique point in their lives. Some will be entering their senior year of high school and others will be starting their college careers. With an internship under their belts, they will have an experience that sets them apart from many of their peers. More importantly, they will be one step closer to understanding what kind of work environment they do or do not want to be in or what field they might want to pursue as they enter the workforce in college and beyond. This self-awareness so early on in their lives is invaluable.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

This program is open to current junior and seniors.

Criteria

Applicants will be evaluated on the following criteria: general professionalism in communication and outreach to internship coordinators throughout the entire application process, quality of application materials, quality of in-person interview, faculty recommendation letters, school and class attendance, and school conduct. Our decisions will also consider what opportunities we have available at the time and subsequently which students are the best fit for those opportunities.

HOW DO STUDENTS APPLY?

  1. Interested students will first submit an application that will be reviewed by the internship coordinators.
  2. The applicant will then schedule an interview and request recommendations from two faculty members.
  3. Applicants also will be required to attend a workplace professionalism workshop teaching them skills such as resume writing, email etiquette and more.
  4. To learn more about the student requirements, please click here. For an application, please contact Internship Coordinators Cayte Brown '08 & Ashley King.

Important dates

Once a student submits an application, he or she will be contacted to set up an interview with the internship coordinators. Applications are due no later than Jan. 31, 2018, and interviews will be wrapped up shortly thereafter. Internship Program decisions will be made by Feb. 9, 2018.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER students APPLY?

After completing the application requirements, students will either be accepted to the program or put on the wait list. Accepted students will be guaranteed an internship; however, not guaranteed their No. 1 choice in field of interest. Wait-listed students may be placed as additional opportunities arise. Both accepted and wait listed students must complete the workplace professionalism workshop to remain eligible for placement.
