Feb 2017: Kenneth Hargrove sees payoff for years of dedication

This year, thanks to the talents of Kenneth and his teammates, the boys varsity swimming team advanced to state championships for the first time in more than eight years!  

Nov 2016: Ellie Maus has a tremendous sailing season 

Ellie has showed true sportsmanship throughout the season and is thrilled that her team will go down in Norfolk Collegiate history with both a TCIS and state championship title. Ellie was named Sailing TCIS Sailor of the Year, All-VISAA Skipper, TCIS First-Team Skipper and All-VISAA Girls.  


Oct. 2016: Carson McMonagle leads Collegiate to winning match


Carson McMonagle  considers the Collegiate team her second family. Recently, she experienced her most memorable sports moment by defeating Nansemond-Suffolk with a tiebreaker, which led our Oaks to win the match. 

Sept. 2016: Maddie Foster shines as cross country captain

Maddie Foster believes in practice, patience and perseverance. She has cross country since the seventh grade and this year she became the captain of our varsity co-ed cross country team. She sat down with the Oak Connection to talk about her love for running and her goals for the season.

May 2016: Alex Loope leads Oaks to VISAA Tournament

Alex Loope is a skilled tennis player who most recently helped to lead our varsity tennis team to the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association (VISAA) state tournament where the team earned first-runner up. 

April 2016: Anna Winn plays hard to win big

Anna Winns’ passion for lacrosse began in the fifth grade and she continues to blossom as a key player on our varsity lacrosse team. She averages two to three goals per game and believes being named as April's Athlete of the Month is the start of many more accomplishments this season.  


March 2016: Ann Burns Morrison loves the game of soccer

Ann Burns has played soccer since she was a little girl. Her love for the sport carried the varsity girls' soccer team to win the TCIS championship last season and she hopes to bring the title home again this year.  

Feb. 2016: Jacob Roth helps to lead his team

Jacob has placed as a champion within his weight class and is a tremendous asset to the varsity wrestling team. His hard work and dedication to the sport led his team to place fifth at TCIS.

Jan. 2016: Bash Townes wants to be known as the best

Humility meets passion when it comes to senior basketball player Bash Townes. He leads by example and remains in control on the court. Bash is a team captain and a tough player who is ready to leave his mark on Norfolk Collegiate varsity basketball.   


Dec. 2015: Gabby Grinnan inspired by friends to play her best 

Gabby has stepped into the game this season and her hard work and dedication to her sport is playing off. She believes in the power of teamwork and is ready to have a great season.



Nov. 2015: Chandler Branton runs passionately to his next goal


Chandler led the cross country team to a wonderful season. He held three top-five finishes and received TCIS All-Conference honors. He was born to run and is extremely honored that his hard work and paying off.


Oct. 2015: Ari Goldman kicks soccer season off right


Ari is noted as the "heart of the team" by Coach and Athletic Director, Jon Hall, and he's leading the varsity boys' soccer team well as the new captain. He is extremely excited about what's to come for this season and hopes to lead them to the TCIS semi-finals.


Sept. 2015: Darden Purrington says perseverance is the key to sailing

Senior Darden Purrington ’16 knows the importance of hard work. Her dedication to sailing has given her the tenacity that is needed to persevere throughout the sport and as a leader on the team. She applies that to her overall life.



April 2015: Peyton Fancher is a force on the field

Senior Peyton Fancher is a survivor. Now in her 13th year at Norfolk Collegiate, she has not only become a force on the field, but also off of the field. Always sporting a smile and sense of humor, Peyton has managed to tally “47 goals and 17 assists for the varsity girls’ lacrosse team, played in 10 contests this spring [and missing one game due to illness],” said acting Athletic Director Jake McDonald.


March 2015: Annie Bashara keeps opponents at bay    

Senior Annie Bashara ’15 is the starting goalie for Norfolk Collegiate’s girls’ varsity lacrosse team. “She has been a catalyst of the early success the team has experienced up to this point in the young season,” said acting athletic director Kai Evans. As one of the four captains, the team is currently holding a combined record of 2-1 and Annie’s goalie play has been VERY instrumental in securing results,” said Evans.

February 2015: For Chris Beck, wrestling is in his blood    

Norfolk Collegiate junior Chris Beck comes from a line of wrestlers, so it’s no surprise that it’s in his blood. When he hits the mats, all that matters is how he plans to take down his opponent. And boy did he this season. Chris ended his unbelievable year with not only being ranked No. 2 in the region for the 170 pound weight class, but he then went on to earn All-American honors! 


January 2015: Jakeim takes his passion to the court

Freshman Jakeim Robertson has been taken to the courts since fourth grade and the hard work has paid off. Though he may not tell you, he often wakes up at 4:30 a.m. to join his mom at the gym. While she works out, he hits the court and practices his basketball skills.
