We are currently accepting applications for the 2020-21 academic year, and we look forward to speaking with you about admission for your child. All inquiries and applications can be fully processed, though some of the steps may change.

APPLICATION PROCESS

We're pleased to welcome you as an applicant at Norfolk Collegiate. If you are new to the process, we encourage you to follow the steps outlined below to help facilitate the process. Though our campus is currently closed, we're functioning remotely and our students are engaging in our digital learning program. We're working to update our procedures in light of the recent closure of all schools by Gov. Northam and will update them as soon as possible.

Pre-kindergarten 3 & 4

Pre-kindergarten 4 applicants must be 4 years old by Aug. 27, 2020.

Pre-kindergarten 3 applicants must be 3 years old by Aug. 31, 2020.

Fill out online application and include:

Download, print and sign the School Information Form for pre-kindergarten.
 
Submit the Information Release Form to your child’s current school or daycare. The school will send the information directly to Norfolk Collegiate.
The admissions department will contact you to schedule a readiness screening.
 
Parents will be notified of an admission decision once the application and screening are complete.

 

KINDERGARTEN and Grade 1

Kindergarten applicants must be 5 years old by Aug. 27, 2020. Children turning 5 after Aug. 27 and before Sept. 30, 2020, may apply. Exceptions may be made at the discretion of the head of lower school.

Fill out online application and include:

Download, print and sign the kindergarten and first-grade transcript release form.

Submit the transcript release and teacher recommendation form to your child’s current school. The school will send the information directly to Norfolk Collegiate.

The admissions department will contact you to schedule admission testing and a group screening or a classroom visit.

* Kindergarten and grade 1 applicants take the WPPSI-IV (Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence – Fourth Edition). 

 

GRADEs 2-5

Fill out online application and include:

Download, print and sign the grades 2-5 transcript release form.

Submit the transcript release and teacher recommendation form to your child’s current school. The school will send the information to us directly.

The admissions department will contact you to schedule admission testing and a classroom visit.

* Grade 2-5 applicants take the Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE). Testing fee is $120, paid directly to Educational Review Board upon scheduling.

 

Grades 6-12

    3. Shadow Day Visit:

    • Shadow Days may usually be scheduled for any normally scheduled school day. Shadow students spend the day following a host student to the normally scheduled classes. Parents are given a tour by a Carolton Oaks Society student ambassador.

    4. Schedule A Testing Date. Contact John Bain at 757.282.5300 or jbain@norfolkcollegiate.org to schedule a test date.

    • Grades 6-12 test in a group setting at our upper school campus, 7336 Granby Street, Norfolk. Students take the Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE). The cost is $120, paid online directly to Educational Records Bureau.

Completed application packages will be submitted to the admission committee for consideration. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling decision based on availability.
