Summer Internship Program

Norfolk Collegiate's Summer Internship Program provides current juniors and seniors, as well as recent college graduates with an opportunity to explore a wide array of potential careers through hands-on, real-world experience at a unique point in their lives.

The insights gained by upper school students and young alumni into potential careers is invaluable.

List of 4 items.

  • How Does It Work?

The program matches student interns with alumni, parent and local organizations throughout Hampton Roads for four to six weeks from June to July in the following fields:
    • Business and Finance
    • Fine and Performing Arts
    • Journalism
    • Law
    • Local Government
    • Medicine
    • Nonprofit Organizations
    • Sports Management
    • STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)
Students must apply for the program. As part of the process, students must participate in an in-person interview with the internship coordinators and submit letters of recommendations from faculty members.

Students are also required to participate in a workplace workshop before being placed with their internship partner. The goal of the workshops is to prepare students for the workplace by teaching them skills such as appropriate workplace attire, email etiquette, resume writing and general workplace professionalism.

After completing the application, students are either accepted to the program or they are placed on a waitlist.
  • What Are The Benefits?

Students partake in robust internships where they’re able to experience the field first-hand at a unique point in their lives. With an internship under their belts, students have an experience that sets them apart from many of their peers.

More importantly, they will be one step closer to understanding what kind of work environment they do or do not want to be in, or what field they might want to pursue as they enter the workforce in college and beyond. This self-awareness so early on in their lives is invaluable and another way in which we provide our students with a great experience.
