Kindergarten through fifth grade students at Norfolk Collegiate Lower School embark on wonderfully inspiring educational journeys every day. Our academic and extra-curricular activities are structured within a culture of trust, honor and respect. We champion educational excellence as we encourage intellectual, creative and athletic pursuits.

One of the first things you may notice about Norfolk Collegiate School is our warm atmosphere, where both students and parents feel safe and welcome. It is readily apparent that we believe in our students and they believe in themselves. We focus on the development of the whole child and guide our students to live by the principles of honesty, decency and concern for our fellow man.

At the Norfolk Collegiate Lower School, dedicated faculty and staff are committed to providing the best education possible for our students. In addition to a traditional curriculum, students are enrolled in music, art, computer, Spanish, and daily physical education classes. Language arts units teach phonics, grammar, writing and literal and inferential comprehension skills. Our social studies programs bring history to life, transporting students back in time and making learning fun in the process.

Learning is interactive and engaging. Our students are challenged both in and out of the classroom. Technology is integral to learning at Norfolk Collegiate School, as students use word processing, Internet research and spreadsheets to build upon logic and thinking skills. All grade levels enjoy going to classes in the science lab, where they explore, among many things, the wonders of magnetism, photosynthesis and the circulatory system.

Our student safety patrols, honor science and math clubs, forensics, intramurals, yoga, band, chorus, and strings programs allow students to find and fulfill their many and varying passions outside of the classroom. Service learning and volunteerism are also part of the culture of our school, and we find that students develop a sense of our larger community through helping others.

I encourage you to visit our campus, take a tour and see the many wonderful things happening at the lower school. My door is always open, and I look forward to sharing the many opportunities Norfolk Collegiate can offer your child.

Sincerely,

Barbara Hall
Head of the Lower School
