Recognizing the wide range of intellectual, physical, emotional, and social differences of early adolescent students, the Norfolk Collegiate Middle School seeks to provide a uniquely personal and individualized education for each of our students. Our goal is to encourage involvement among parents, students and faculty members to develop instructional and interpersonal approaches that address the needs of students growing from children to young adults.
On any given day in the middle school, you will notice the students in Mr. Smith's "literary lounge" sitting in a circle listening intently as one of their classmates gives an opinion about the use of imagery in a favorite short story. Further down the hall, you stop for a moment to hear Mrs. Moran's current events class debating the policy differences among presidential candidates. One young woman is so passionate in her support for a political candidate that you almost walk right on in, but a commotion from the eighth grade science lab draws your attention. You arrive just in time to see Mrs. Fornsel's students assembled around lab tables watching chicken breasts bloat and bubble as part of an oxidation lab.
With a myriad of activities during choice time, field trips and community service projects off campus, and special speakers who remind us of the importance of character, the middle school is a busy place every day. We encourage you to visit and see why the Norfolk Collegiate Middle School is such a special place.
Sincerely,
Roz Klein
