NCS students of all ages are making their voices heard—in the classroom, in the city of Norfolk, in the region of Hampton Roads, and even nationally this fall.
NCS fifth graders learned the ins and outs of TV production, as well as scientific principles, as they appeared on WAVY-TV (10)'s "Kid Talk" program September 20.
All NCS ninth graders are giving back to the local community, tutoring elementary students at Norfolk's Crossroads Elementary School every Tuesday morning.
Upper school marine biology students went on a field trip to learn more about oyster conservation on the Chesapeake Bay, preparing to develop their own oyster restoration project.
Journalism students from freshmen to seniors were recognized nationally by The American Society of News Editors. The organization reproduced 5 articles from The Oak Leaf, our upper school student newspaper, in its National High School Edition publication.

Fall is a bustling time of year at NCS. Below is a sample of the many things we are looking forward to in the coming days.
October 24—29: Sweet and Treat Week at the lower school gives a Halloween jeans-day treat to students who do something sweet—being a friend, playing with someone new, helping someone out. Kids put news of their "sweet" in a special pumpkin to earn a “treat” of wearing jeans on Monday, October 31.
Kindergartners explore nature November 2 as they travel to the Virginia Zoo to see Lisa the elephant, and other wild denizens.
Autumn is really here! Leaves are falling and colleges are dropping in to the upper school to meet NCS students. Local colleges and universities are stopping by, as well as national schools big and small like the University of Chicago, Hood College, Mount Holyoke College, Vanderbilt University, Columbia University and Washington University of St. Louis.
November 2 at 7p.m. parents of students in grades 8-12 are invited to hear guest speaker Ms. Kari Yuen, prevention specialist from FCD Educational Services, who will outline the Freedom from Chemical Dependency 4-day program taking place on NCS campus this month. She will also discuss drug and alcohol prevention and awareness issues with parents and answer questions. FCD has taught over a million students in hundreds of independent schools since 1976.
Join us for our expert speaker series on campus this fall and winter, starting with "Making Children's Literature Come Alive" Saturday, November 5 at 2:00 p.m. during our lower school open house. And help spread the news about our Kindergarten Preview Day on Thursday, November 3 at 9 a.m. for future members of the class of 2024! Visit norfolkcollegiate.org/discover for details. |
