For the second time in three years, the Oaks won Atlantic Coast Championship, sailing against 16 other schools in a regatta hosted by the Sailing Center Chesapeake in Tall Timbers, Maryland, over the weekend.

Senior skipper Ian Stokes with Nick Baker and Darden Purrington, eighth graders, as crew, led the team by taking first place in the A Division, winning six of the 15 races over two days.  Senior skipper Anderson Granger with junior Layne Kennedy as his crew finished third in the B Division. The combined effort gave the Oaks 133 points, 16 ahead of second place Severn.

“I could not be prouder of the team,” said Coach Randy Stokes. ” The weekend was an endurance contest.  Skill, maturity, spirit, and strength were all put to the test in two long days of racing among the best of the best.  We made flawless boat handling the foundation of our game plan.  It took days weeks and years to hone the skills displayed this weekend.  It took exceptional tactics and strategy on top of boat handling to win the races, but the conditions were impossible to consistently master.”
