NCS Sailors Win State and Sail on to Regionals
Congratulations to our sailors!  The Norfolk Collegiate School team is the new Virginia State Varsity Fleet Racing Champions and will continue on to the district competition.  The team is no stranger to taking on Mid-Atlantic competition.  NCS went to the district championship races each of the past nine years, winning the district title eight times and continuing on to nationals.  Their highest national finish was fifth place.

The recent victory took place Saturday with beautiful but challenging winds that helped define the winners.  Our young JV team remained tough against the older more experienced teams and the powerful winds that funneled and strengthened through the JV course. Championship Regatta rules prescribe that each school may race only one two-boat A/B team.  Even with the very best on the water, many teams struggled when the winds picked up and several actually flipped.  Our sailors stayed dry and were cheered on by the entire NCS team and their parents.  Their support was essential to our victory (first place finish in both A and B) which helped us to qualify for the Mid-Atlantic Division Championship (MASSA).

Additional congratulations are extended to:

The JV team finishing second overall for the season

Virginia All State Crew - Layne Kennedy

Virginia All State Skipper - Anderson Granger, Ian Stokes

VISA Sailor of the Season - Ian Stokes

The next couple of weeks the team will be gearing up for two major events:
MASSA Fleet Race Championship at Stony Brook, Long Island, NY Oct. 22-23 and
MASSA Race Championship at Annapolis, MD, Nov, 5-6.  Good Luck!

Thanks to Kerri Stokes and Carroll Lee Kennedy for sharing this good news.
