W4LL (Wireless for Learning and Leading)
Norfolk Collegiate School embraces a model of teaching and learning that allows students to explore questions that spark their genuine intellectual curiosity. One way in which we support this model of inquiry-based learning is by providing wireless access to the Internet and to the school’s network in all of our classrooms and learning spaces. Like all instructional technology initiatives at Norfolk Collegiate School, the goal of wireless access is to enhance student learning through innovative, engaging teaching methodologies. We believe that students and teachers should have the ability to pursue intriguing questions at the moment of inspiration, and that teachers should be able to use these pivotal moments to personalize learning for every student. To maximize student access and engagement in the learning process, we have created a wireless environment that supports both school-owned and student-owned laptops and tablets. Wireless access is customized for each of our school’s three divisions in order to allow all of our students to have the right tools and resources they need to make critical connections between the classroom and the world. We believe that effectively using technology is an essential component in preparing our students for college and for lifelong learning. Today’s learners and leaders must be able to use technology to explore important questions and to solve complex problems. Our wireless environment brings students the opportunity to practice these critical skills as they pursue their passions and discover where they want to go and how they will lead in the world.

W4LL @ the Lower School

Students in grades K-5 at the lower school access educational resources via the wireless network on school provided laptops and tablets. Teachers and technology integration specialists collaborate to identify and make accessible the right applications, websites, tools, and online resources to enhance the curriculum at every grade level. Students use these resources in their classrooms, in their library, and in common learning spaces as teachers integrate digital resources into learning activities.
Specific guidelines for responsible use of the wireless network and technology in grades K-5 at Norfolk Collegiate School can be found here

W4LL @ the Middle School

Students in grades 6-8 have the option to use school-owned devices or to bring personally owned laptops and tablets to access the wireless network in our laptop friendly middle school. School-owned laptops and tablets are always made available for in-class instructional activities that require them. Students in the middle school will find that in addition to using their devices for specific instructional activities, they may also use their personal laptops or tablets to increase their efficiency at note taking, organizing, and managing projects. Middle school students may use their personal laptops or tablets to access the wireless network in their classrooms, the Explore Rooms, or the Stanton Library.
Technical specifications for personal laptops used at school are found here and guidelines for responsible use of the wireless network and technology in grades 6-8 at Norfolk Collegiate School can be found

W4LL @ the Upper School

Students in grades 9-12 have the option to use school-owned devices or to bring personally owned laptops and tablets to access the wireless network on our upper school campus. School-owned laptops and tablets are always made available for in-class instructional activities that require them. Students in the upper school will find that in addition to using their devices for specific instructional activities, they may also use their personal laptops or tablets to increase their efficiency at note taking, organizing, and managing projects. Upper school students may use their personal laptops or tablets to access the wireless network in the lobby, courtyard, library, or other common spaces. Technical specifications for personal laptops used at school can be found here and guidelines for responsible use of the wireless network and technology in grades 9-12 at Norfolk Collegiate School can be found here.
