Camel Rider by Prue Mason
Adam and his family live comfortably in a compound with other foreigners who work in the Middle East. Then war breaks out, and while his neighbors rush to escape, Adam returns to save his dog. Walid, an abused camel boy, has run away from his cruel masters. Each boy is alone and friendless when they meet in the unforgiving desert. Together they struggle to bridge wide gulfs between their cultures and languages in order to survive.
