Visual Arts in the Middle School

The visual arts program in the Norfolk Collegiate Middle School exposes students to a wide variety of artistic styles and methods, while exploring the many, diverse facets of art history. In the program, students take pride and find pleasure in their aesthetic expressions. In these classes, cooperation, responsibility and respect flourish. At Norfolk Collegiate School, the art curriculum builds upon a child's technical ability while fostering his or her inner creativity.

The middle school offers the following classes:

Sixth, seventh and eighth grade art encompasses an overview of the processes and terminology of various types of art. Students explore several basic areas of art, art criticism and evaluation and art history. The principles and elements of design are introduced and guide students in producing pieces of artwork. In the sixth grade there is a focus on art history, the seventh grade focuses on multicultural art and the eighth grade on artists and their styles.
