Clubs & Activities
Middle School is a time for students to accept new challenges, investigate new activities and stretch their wings.  Two days a week, during activity time, middle school students are encouraged to pursue their interests through a wide range of activities including athletics, visual and performing arts, and hobbies. Past activities have included scrapbooking, beading, art, board games, glee clubs, dance teams, watching movies, book club and newspaper

Leadership can take many different forms and students are given the opportunity to develop the skills necessary to lead.  Collaborative classroom work allows students to practice different group roles.  The student body elects Student Government Association officers each semester to provide more students with experience in formal leadership.  The Ambassador Society and Honor Council also allow students to exercise their skills and leadership to serve the school community.

Volunteer service is encouraged in the middle school.  Each grade level volunteers by advisory group one early dismissal day at a non-profit of their choice.  Favorite charities include the SPCA, the Ronald McDonald House, the Norfolk Botanical Gardens, and Nauticus.  A partnership with Hospitality for the Homeless and other area non-profits enables students to volunteer on campus after school.

Academically, students can challenge themselves with the spelling, geography, and vocabulary bees.  Winners go on to the local and state competition.  The forensics team competes in the regional Sergeant Forensics Tournament.

Social outings: Hangout Nights four times a year are "everyone will be there" events.  A DJ provides music in the Collegiate Cafe for dancing, refreshments are in the upper school lobby and the upper school gym is open for basketball, nerf football and jump rope.  The Holly Dance in December is a dressy event with dancing only.
