2011 Summer Reading List for Eleventh Grade US History    

Assignment for both Mr. Mundy's and Ms Winter's US History class:

You will have selected readings from chapters one and two in your text, Don’t Know Much About History. When reading, please take notes in your own handwriting on separate sheets of paper. When you return to school in the fall you will be given a series of short quizzes, one quiz on each reading assignment. You may use your handwritten notes to help you with each quiz. Please see the reading selections below.


Chapter One

“Okay, the Indians really discovered America. Who were they and how did they get here?”

“Where were the first European settlements in the New World?”

“What was the Lost Colony?”

“When and how did Jamestown get started?”

“What was the House of Burgesses?”

“What was the Mayflower Compact?”

“What were the thirteen original colonies?”


Chapter Two

“What was Nat Bacon’s Rebellion?”

“What was the Great Awakening?”

“Who fought the French and Indian War?”

“What do sugar and stamps have to do with revolutions?”

“What was ‘the shot heard round the world’?”

“What exactly does the Declaration of Independence Say?”

“What were the Articles of Confederation?”

“How did the colonies win the war?”
