Summer Book Report Outline:
You will need to complete book reports for two of the books that you read. Book reports are due the first day of school. Please choose from the following three options. You may use the same option for both reports if you like.

Option #1 – Story Quilt
Students should make a paper quilt with nine squares. The middle square should include the title, the author, and the student’s name. Other squares should include: setting, characters, problem, solution, and four important events from the story. Squares should have writing and neat, colorful illustrations.

Option #2 – Character Poster
Students should draw one of the main characters in the middle of a sheet of poster board. Under the character, list the title, author, character’s name, and the student’s name. Using complete sentences, around the character should be a physical description of the character, the problem the character faced, how the character solved the problem, and at least three characteristics of the character with a reason why (For example: Helen Keller is courageous because she traveled all over the world even though she was blind and deaf.).

Option #3 – Written Report
The written report should be written as follows:
The first paragraph should include:
· The title (underline your book’s title)
· The author
· Type of book (fiction, non-fiction, biography . . .)

The second paragraph should:
· Tell about the characters (describe the characters and tell about the character’s actions, feelings, thoughts, words, etc.).
· Be in good paragraph form (indent the first sentence and include at least 3-4 complete sentences).

The third paragraph should:
· Tell about two important events in the story.
· Give two reasons why you liked the book.
· Be in good paragraph form.
