Middle School Health and PE    
The Sixth Grade Physical Education Program includes a full range of physical activities that the middle school student needs in developing a healthy lifestyle. Students will develop a basic knowledge of their own physical fitness status. They will acquire a working knowledge of the rules and fundamentals of different sports and activities, including soccer, tennis, flag football, field hockey, volleyball, basketball, weight training, softball and lacrosse. Students will also develop skills in teamwork and leadership. PE is offered two out of every three weeks.
 
The 6th Grade Health course is designed to assist students in the transition from elementary to middle school. The goal of health education is to encourage all learners to move toward wellness through responsible actions. These actions will be fostered through the process of exploring attitudes, knowledge, behaviors, and skills that are demonstrated by healthy people. The skills reinforced will include critical thinking, responsible decision-making, refusal skills, goal setting, and assertive communication. Course topics include self-esteem, difficult feelings, friendships, nutrition, disease prevention, alcohol, tobacco, and other drug issues; and human growth and development. Health class is taught every third week.
 
Seventh Grade Physical Education is a full year course. The course is designed to give students a greater understanding of physical fitness, while concentrating on their own personal fitness and personal fitness goals. Throughout the year students will be introduced to a variety of fitness, recreation, dance, individual, and team sport activities and games. Students will also be introduced to leadership techniques and practices and have the opportunity to lead the class in a specific game and/or activity.
 
Seventh Grade Health is a full year course along with physical education.  Each student will become involved in learning about themselves as well as their environment. The subject matter in health includes health and wellness, decision- making, self-esteem, the different body systems, and different diseases.  Student will be assessed on their homework and class work, chapter test, and writing assignments.
 
Eighth Grade Physical Education is designed as a full-year course. This course is designed in a manner that all students will gain greater understanding of physical fitness, while concentrating on their own personal fitness and personal fitness goals. Throughout the year students will be introduced to a variety of fitness, recreation, dance, individual, and team sport activities and games. Students will also be introduced to leadership techniques and practices and have the opportunity to lead the class in a specific game and/or activity.
 
In Eighth Grade Health,students study conflict management, preventing abuse and violence, infectious and non-infectious diseases, consumer health, and health and the environment. Student performance is assessed on homework and class work, tests, and written assignments. Health class is taught every third week.
