Virtual Groundbreaking Ceremony
The virtual groundbreaking ceremony for Norfolk Collegiate’s Center for the Arts was a wonderful celebration for our students, staff, alumni, board of trustees, and Norfolk officials.  Lower, middle and upper school students donned hard hats in the Watt-Baker Gym where members of the NCS band, strings ensemble, and chorus showcased their talents.

Opening remarks by Gary Bonnewell, Chairman of the Board of Trustees and the Keynote Address by the Mayor of Norfolk, Paul D. Fraim spoke of an elegant, creative space designed not just for students, but for the greater art community as well.  Nance Corriveau, Art Department Chair, made a special presentation of three paintings to be the first student work to be displayed in the open gallery space in the new building.  Artists Meg Lockhart (5thgrade), Timeri Jordan (8thgrade), and Ellen Bouchard (12thgrade) were happy to have their work chosen for the occasion.

With silver shovels and a container of earth from the building site, the virtual groundbreaking marked the beginning of a dream becoming a reality.

These pictures and video highlight the joyous celebration.
